Moving to San Diego

Sorry I haven't been on the last few days! We are moving across country this week! I have been knitting a blanket but that is about all of the crafting I can do right now! I will try to post some pictures from the trip across country! Any ideas out there of fun places to stop? We are driving from Virginia beach and stopping at the grand canyon and then to los angeles and down PCH (hwy 1) to San diego. Not sure what silly/interesting places there are to stop at along the way?! Would love for your suggestions!

So I just had to share this because it is such an amazing deal!  I made it out this morning during Monkey's nap to get some things at Rite Aid. We love Huggies and hate Pampers (everyone has their own strong opinions about diapers...this is ours lol).  So I jump at the opportunity to get them so cheap! I didn't set out to buy the contact solution but I have been having some problems with my eyes fogging up lately (I have hard lenses and have had them since I was 10 or 11) so considering I only spent $16 for all of this stuff I'm totally stoked!  I'd love to hear how you did!

Announcing my first GIVEAWAY!

I've decided to do my first giveaway once I reach 50 followers!  I want someone to enjoy these tutus and matching hair flowers that I made last week.
This one is lavender satin ribbon with white tulle.  It is meant to fit a 20" waist but it ties so you can tie it shorter or longer if need be.    The headband is crochet and very stretchy.  I assembled the fabric flower with a gem to give it some sparkle.  The flower is attached to an alligator clip so you can clip it right into their hair or onto a headband of your choice.  I love mix and match!

This tutu is an aqua satin ribbon with white tulle.  It is also meant to fit a 20" waist but as with the last one you can tie it tighter or looser than 20".  The headband is white crochet.  This green flower is also attached to an alligator clip so it can be mix and matched with other hairbands or clipped right into your little one's hair.

All you have to do to enter is follow my blog and leave me a comment letting me know you follow and how I can contact you if you win!  If you would like me to follow you back please leave a link to your blog.  Share my blog with your friends and tell them to follow me too because I'm not giving them away until I reach 50 followers!

Can't you just picture your little one playing dress up or practicing ballet in this little number? ;-)

Very Special Boy's 2nd Birthday

Our friend Zachary is having his 2nd Birthday after we leave Virginia.  So I hurried to make this one night so we could give it to him before we leave.  Hope he is enjoying using it as much as I did making it! :-)

Halloween Catchup

I know Halloween is over and all but, I wasn't doing this blog yet so I haven't posted all of my homemade Halloween things from this year yet!
This is my little Abby Cadabby (the fairy goddaughter on Sesame Street)

I wanted to attempt her Halloween costume this year and everyone LOVED it.  Which, of course made me feel really good!

I tried to get the red-eye out on this picture and now her eyes look a little crazy! lol
I made her girl friend Holley an Elmo costume.  Here is Monkey modeling it!

There is a weird glare on this picture but here is a "subway art" that I made for Halloween decor.  This was a sign that said "cosmo club" or something like that and had been hiding in monkey's closet for awhile now.  I dug it out and busted out my Cricut cutting machine, Mod Podge, and scrapbook paper. I love how it turned out!

This was at the pumkin patch.  She was trying SO hard to see the chickens!

Me hanging out while Daddy Monkey played paprazzi

I made these "ghosts" with washed out milk cartons and took a sharpie to them.  I plopped a battery powered light inside and then hubby and I carved the punkins :-) Mine is the happy one.  lol

Party food-mummy pizzas with homemade pizza dough (my first try!)

And then I commissioned hubby to do all this tedious meticulous work.  Apples with string cheese teeth and string cheese fingers with (homegrown) bell pepper fingernails.
Mummy dogs!  I just doubled the batch of pizza dough and added some shredded cheese to the dough for the mummy dogs.

These ghost pops I made by buying the chocolate melts and putting in a zipper bag and cut the tip.  I put mini chocolate chips as eyes and stuck them in the freezer for a couple minutes.  ta-da! YUM white chocolate...my fav!

All I did was print out a shape I wanted and then chalk the outline on black cardstock.  Double sided tape it to the wall.

Dollar store wreath.  I hot glued the leaves around the wreath and then stuck a couple little pumpkins/gourds on it.  The scarecrow was on a stick that was supposed to go into the ground but I pulled it out and glued him to the wreath.  I think the total was $5.

These are just paper flowers that I made with scrapbook paper and glued them to a foam ball from the dollar store.  This container was also from the dollar store.  It was an ugly color so I spray painted it black.  I added a foam piece inside the container and a dowel I wrapped with ribbon with lots of hot glue.

These hurricanes I showed you before in this post.  I added some plastic dollar store skulls and foam gourds, foam pumpkins, and candy eyeballs.  All of these (and the spider) were from Dollar Tree.  If you haven't seen the Dollar Store Crafts blog yet you need to!

I picked up these pine cones at the park with monkey (all the other pieces and bowl are bought!).  Used a paintbrush with some Mod Podge and sprinkled glitter on them.  Done and free :)  My favorite kind of project!

Goodwill finds today

Went to the Goodwill today to browse and stumbled upon this coffee carafe.  My Nana (mom's mom) passed away when I was young.   My Grandma (dad's mom) had gotten the carafe on the left as a gift from Nana years ago and then recently gave it to me.  I thought it was so special that she had kept it all this time and now I get to admire and appreciate it.  So when I saw the carafe on the right at the Goodwill I really had to contain myself.  I was so excited!  Now getting them side by side I know that the one my Nana bought was much better quality and a little different in design but the similarity really astounded me!  Not bad for $5.25!  Now if I ever do a brunch I can have coffee in one and tea or decaf in the other :)  yay!

This one from my Nana has more detail around the top brass piece and the handles is more arched.

I also found Monkey a stuffed Elmo for $3.25.  She had just woken from her nap here and not amused with me snapping pictures lol.

She brought Elmo to eat lunch with her.

And is carrying him around everywhere.  So stinkin cute :-P  Can't wait until she sees the stuffed Abby Cadabby (her new favorite) that Grandma Baker has waiting for her in Sacramento!  She is going to lose it! :-)

Busy Day

So I can't post my projects from today because they are a couple of gifts for people that may be reading this blog =) tee hee.  So instead you get to see some cute pictures of my little monkey from our busy day today.

Monkey modeling the tutu I made yesterday.

Monkey helping me make dinner.  This is what happens to the house when mommy is crafting all day.  INSANELY messy!!

But she is such a good helper.  I told her mix in circles and she says "circle".

All done mom.  Now, lets get these enchiladas made!  P.S. they were delicious!

Soup Can Candle Sticks

Yes, you read that right!  I am so excited about this craft! I started it a couple weeks ago but I think I have craft ADD.  :-P  You can check out the tutorial that I used here at Me Making Do's blog. Just save a few soup cans from the dumpster and tah dahh!  The tops and bottom wood pieces I got at Lowe's for around $2 a piece.  I made a few adjustments to my embellishing that made it even easier!  I did use a book page to make the accordion flower but I just found a scrapbook flower and glued that on.  I was going to attempt to make a paper flower but didn't want to dig out my paints.  I make a big enough mess on my own let alone getting acrylic paint out with an 19 month old!  I swear she just waits for me to look away for one second and she has a pen or marker in her hands!  Sneaky little girl!

Close-up of the flower

Ready for Christmas...I know It isn't even Thanksgiving yet!  But we are going to be traveling across country on Thanksgiving so we kind of get to skip it this year.  So onward HO! (ho ho) haha.  I crack myself up!

Here they are on my mantle

Here they are with my dollar store hurricane glasses.  You can see one of the MANY tutorials out there if you click here.  Have I mentioned that I LOVE my hot glue gun.  It is kind of sad the obsession I have with it! I also got the red candles at Dollar Tree.
So, there you have it!
Project total:
$8 for the wood pieces at Lowe's
$2 for the candles at Dollar Tree
Ribbon and other embellishments on hand

$10 for 2 candle sticks...SWEET!  And it is upcycled to boot!
Hope you liked it!  Please follow my blog and leave me a comment to know you've been by!
